After graduating from High
School in 1987, Matt received his BA in Commercial Art in 1992, from Northeastern
State University, Tahlequah, Oklahoma. In 1993 he attended the Institute of American Indian Arts, in Santa Fe, New Mexico.

Matthew is member of the Citizen Band Potawatomi Nation and through his education and ties his works are influenced by the Osages and the Cherokee, among others.
